Title:
USS Maine Covered Dish
Description:
Presented for your consideration is this neat antique covered dish. The dish is made of milk glass and is in the shape of the USS Maine. The USS Maine was a U.S. Navy battleship that was commissioned from 1895 to 1898. It sank in Havana Harbor of February 15, 1898 which contributed to the outbreak of the Spanish-American War in April. American newspapers claimed the Spanish were responsible for the sinking and it spurred the phrase “Remember the Maine! To hell with Spain!.” This dish shows a detailed representation of the battleship with features molding into the glass. The lid fits snug on the base and is easy to remove. At the front of the ship is it marked with “Maine” on each side. There are no markings on the dish to determine a manufacturer. Guaranteed to be old. This neat covered dish would make a great addition to any Spanish-American War memorabilia, battleship or milk glass collection!
A very small chip is on the inner rim of the lid and one edge of the bottom of the base. Free of any significant chips. No cracks. Typical light wear from age and use. Overall in VERY GOOD condition. Please refer to the photos for the absolute best details.
Measures 7 3/4″ long, 4″ wide at the widest point and 3 5/8″ tall.
Please take a look at our photos and feel free to message us with any questions.
